Abstract

In cells, biomolecules spontaneously form ordered molecular self-assemblies to achieve sophisticated functions of molecular systems. In chemistry, "molecular self-assembly" has also been considered a powerful methodology to create properties and functions beyond individual molecules. In this talk, our work on "Photon Upconversion (UC) based on molecular self-assembly", will be introduced. Photon UC using excited triplet state is a methodology that can convert low-energy (longer wavelength) light into high-energy (shorter wavelength) light even with relatively weak excitation light intensity. We will discuss the features and potential applications created by the integration of molecular self-assembly. Possible applications and prospects will be also discussed.
