Kyushu University Forum "KYUDAI NOW" in Johor Bahru, Malaysia Event Report The Kyushu University Forum “KYUDAI NOW” was held in Universiti Teknologi Malaysi, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, following its inaugural event in Kuala Lumpur in 2024. The event was held with the cooperation of the Kyushu University Malaysia Alumni Association and Campus Asia Plus.The forum aims to showcase Kyushu University’s latest research across various disciplines, strengthen connections with its alumni, and build networks with international academia in both Malaysia and Japan. The event gathered approximately 200 participants, including Kyushu University alumni, individuals with study experience in Japan or aspirations to study there, and members of academia. This forum served as the first day of a three-day recurrent education program. The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks by Prof. Akira Harata Deputy, Director General of Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies, followed by a guest address by Prof. Mohamad Huzaimy Jusoh, President of Malaysia Kyushu University Alumni & faculty of Universiti Teknologi MARA, and Prof. Rosli Md Illias, Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. In Session I “Environment” of the symposium, Prof. Hooman Farzaneh, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, presented “Towards a Sustainable electricity market in Japan.” He was followed by Prof. Osama Eljamal, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, who spoke on “Innovative Nanotechnology Approaches for Environmental Cleanup and Energy Generation.” Prof. Michitaka Ohtaki, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, presented “Oxide Thermoelectrics for Recovering Unused Thermal Energy.” Assoc. Prof. Nurmiza Othman, Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, gave the final presentation of this session titled “Biosensors for Environmental Applications: Bridging Biology and Technology for a Greener Future.” During the coffee break, a “Study in Kyushu University” consultation session was held for attendees interested in pursuing higher education at Kyushu University. Prof. Toru Oga, Faculty of Law, delivered a presentation on “Rethinking Corruption in Global South: A Theoretical Dialogue between Syed Hussein Alatas and Transparency International.” Additionally, Prof. Yoshikawa Akimasa from the Faculty of Science, shared insights in a talk titled “Establishing a Global Magnetic Field Observation Network for Space Weather Research.” As the last talk of Session II, Dr. Zatul Iffah Abd Latiff Faculty of Electrical Engineering Studies at Universiti Teknologi MARA gave her presentation titled “Space Weather Impact in National Power Grid and Pipeline Systems in Malaysia”. The event concluded with a closing speech by Assoc. Prof. Abdul Halim Abdullah, vice president of Malaysia Kyushu University Alumni Association & faculty of Universiti Teknologi MARA, representing the Malaysia Alumni Association of Kyushu University and Prof. Shimizu Shuji, vice president of Kyushu University. A reception followed, providing an opportunity to deepen mutual friendship through engaging and pleasant conversations in a warm and convivial atmosphere. Reception of KYUDAI NOW in Malaysia Reception of KYUDAI NOW in Malaysia (The group of Malaysian alumni of Kyushu University) On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the second day of the recurrent education program, a joint lecture of approximately one hour each was given to the recurrent education program students in collaboration with students from CAMPUS Asia, led by professors from Kyushu University who had given talks at KYUDAI NOW. Questions about each research project and research meetings were also held actively. Lecturer Lecturer On Thursday, August 28, 2025, the third day of the recurrent education program, we split into two groups and visited Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam (UiTM) and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UHTM), drawing on the network of the Kyushu University Malaysia Alumni Association. They exchanged wide-ranging opinions with researchers from various fields from the executives of each university, and discussed future joint research, collaborative activities, and the promotion of international exchange. At UiTM, they also conducted fieldwork, including a tour of a solar panel testing facility, and at UHTM, students from Kyushu University and UHTM gave research poster presentations, leading to lively discussions across disciplines.
