Kyushu University Forum「KYUDAI NOW」 in Thailand 2024

Event Report

 

Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies was held「KYUDAI NOW in Thailand 2024」in Bangkok, Thailand on March 12, 2024.

 This event has been held since 2022 with the aim of disseminating information on the latest research results and activities to the general public, including overseas Kyushu University alumni, Fukuoka Prefecture officials, and local education, business, and government officials, as well as to expand human networks. The event has been held in Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, and this was the second time in Thailand.

 This was the first time that President Ishibashi attended KYUDAI NOW.In the pre-session, we welcomed Dr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Tatsushi Nishioka, Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, Dr. Otani, Director of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Bangkok Research Center, Dr. Surin, Chairman of Kyushu University Thailand Alumni club, Mr. Ideguchi, Kyushu University Alumni Association in Thailand (Gao-Kai), etc.

Pre-session of KYUDAI NOW

 The symposium portion of the event was attended by 85 participants, including Kyushu University alumni and researchers from various Thai universities. After welcoming remarks by President Ishibashi, opening remarks by Dr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Tatsushi Nishioka, Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, and introduction of Kyushu University and Q-AOS by Deputy Director Shuji Shimizu, President Ishibashi presented the guests with Kyushu University commemorative gifts.

 The first part of research presentations focused on “Society & Technology,” featuring presentations by Prof. Miyuki Inaba from the Faculty of Arts & Science, Assoc. Prof. Kun Qian from the Q-AOS, Asst. Prof. Simanullang Irwan Liapto from the Faculty of Engineering, and Asst. Prof. Haruka Nakano from the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics. During the coffee break, a poster presentation session was held, featuring presentations by Yuki Ohsaka (D1, Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Global Society), Shota Sonoda (M1, Graduate School of Engineering), Shugo Inoue (M1, Graduate School of Bioresource and Environmental Studies), Malokhat Uktamova (M1, Graduate School of Science), and Keisuke Hattori and Sota Masuda (B4, Department of Agriculture). After the coffee break, the second part of research presentations focused on “Science & Agriculture,” with presentations by Assoc. Prof. Munetoshi Maruyama from the Kyushu University Museum, Assoc Prof. Takeshi Zendo from the Faculty of Agriculture, and Asst. Prof. Kohei Torikai from the Faculty of Science.

 A total of 73 Kyushu University alumni and representatives from universities and industries attended the reception. Following a welcome speech by President Ishibashi, remarks were delivered by two alumni representatives, Dr. Otani and Dr. Surin. After two hours of mingling and networking, President Ishibashi presented Kyushu University memorabilia to the representatives, and Ideguchi, Kyushu University Alumni Association in Thailand (Gao-Kai), concluded the event with a closing speech and a Fukuoka-style hand-clapping conclusion (Hakata Ippon-jime).
