Overview of Research

E-WEB-Goal-03 E-WEB-Goal-05 E-WEB-Goal-09 E-WEB-Goal-10
Heloísa's previous research explored the aesthetics of prostheses as well as the biomechanical implications of using sports-specific prostheses for cycling. At Q-AOS, her research will focus on the relationship between users and prostheses, examining how cultural and social contexts influence their acceptance and use, both in terms of appearance and function.

Despite significant technological advancements, the rates of prosthesis use and embodiment have remained relatively low over the past 25 years, particularly for upper-limb prostheses. By studying the acceptance of prostheses across various Asian and Oceanic countries, this research aims to inform design approaches that consider sociocultural nuances, ensuring these devices are better integrated and accepted by users.
