New Course Launch: "アジアウィークで探る持続可能な未来 (Exploring a Sustainable Futurethrough Asia Week)"
The Institute for Asian and Oceanian studies has been hosting "Asia Week" since 2020. The initiative aims to showcase the organization's extensive track record in Asian research and education—as well as its potential for future developments—to audiences both in Japan andabroad. It also seeks to strengthen partnerships with overseas universities and foster new frameworks for international exchange and collaboration.

For the fall semester of the 2026 academic year, we will launch a core educational course titled"Exploring a Sustainable Future through Asia Week," which incorporates the Asia Week program.
In this course, students will select specific seminars and events from the diverse Asia Week line up based on their own interests. The course aims to help students deepen their learning, examine the challenges and possibilities involved in building a sustainable future society from multiple perspectives, and cultivate a global outlook.

Summer Course “Robotics Workshop: Solving Asia’s Most Pertinent Issues” Successfully Held
On July 9 and 10, 2026, a two-day summer course, "Robotics Workshop: Solving Asia’s Most Pertinent Issues," was held at Ito Guest House.
The workshop welcomed 16 students from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and National Taiwan University (NTU). Participants explored Japan’s advances in robotics while learning about major challenges facing Asia, including healthcare, environmental sustainability, industry, and aging societies. Through lectures and group discussions, students deepened their understanding of these issues and applied design thinking to develop innovative robotics-based solutions.
During the group discussions, students collaborated enthusiastically, engaging in LEGO® Serious Play® in order to explore their concepts, and exchanging ideas based on their diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. On the second day, each group presented its proposals, showcasing a wide range of creative solutions from different perspectives. Through their final projects, students also demonstrated that one of the main goals of the workshop, which was to develop critical thinking about the introduced issues, was successfully achieved.
On July 13, the participants also visited Yaskawa Electric Corporation in Kitakyushu City. During the visit, they were able to interact with industrial robots and learned how robotics technologies are applied in real-world manufacturing and other industrial settings.
The workshop provided participants with a valuable opportunity not only to deepen their understanding of robotics technologies but also to collaborate across cultures in addressing social challenges facing Asia from an international perspective.
Q-AOS × FS Headquarters × Faculty of Design: Launching a New Course Using BBS Lecture Videos and an AI recommendation system!
Q-AOS, in collaboration with the Headquarters for Future Society Design (FS Headquarters) and the Platform for Integrated Knowledge and Future Education Design at the Faculty of Design, will offer an upper-division general education course titled “Social Inclusion and Design B” in the Summer Term of AY2026, utilizing lecture videos from the Brown Bag Seminar (BBS) series and an AI recommendation system. In this course, social inclusion is reframed not as a matter of ideals or goodwill, but as a “structure” shaped by the design of institutions, spaces, language, technologies, and evaluation systems. By also incorporating opportunities to participate in BBS sessions, the course aims to develop an education model that can be scaled and shared both within and beyond the university. Through viewing BBS videos and participating in seminar sessions, students will engage with diverse research and practice; they will also use the AI recommendation system to discover lectures aligned with their interests, formulate their own questions, and deepen their learning through producing outputs.
