Professor Tanaka participated in a roundtable discussion featured in a special issue of the magazine Monthly Keidanren alongside Shigeki Murata, Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency; Masanobu Komoda, Chairman of Mitsui Fudosan (and Chair of the Keidanren Tourism Committee); and Alex Kerr, a well-known author. Representing the academic community, Prof Tanaka offered an assessment of the newly formulated Fifth Basic Plan for Promoting Japan as a Tourism-Oriented Nation and presented proposals regarding the future vision for Japan as a tourism-oriented nation. “Monthly Keidanren” is the official journal published by the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and wields significant influence in political and industrial circles. In October 2025, Keidanren compiled a proposal titled “Toward a Sustainable Future for Japan as a Tourism-Oriented Nation” for the government; Prof Tanaka contributed to the formulation of this proposal by delivering a lecture at Keidanren at that time.
