Abstract
This presentation introduces research that analyzes poverty from a multidimensional perspective, focusing not only on income but also on "time use." In Japan, long working hours and significant gender disparities in unpaid domestic and caregiving work are prominent issues. Single-parent households in particular face a heightened risk of falling into both income poverty and time poverty simultaneously. Even in two-parent households, wives in dual-earner couples with preschool-age children tend to exhibit high rates of time poverty at the individual level. Furthermore, time poverty has been found to be associated with a range of health risks. Future research challenges include examining the relationship between the outsourcing of household tasks and well-being, the long-term outcomes for children affected by parental time poverty, and more broadly, the links between time poverty and quality of life in family settings.
