Abstract
Once called “a country that is near yet far,” Korea has now become “a country that is near and close” primarily through its culture—music, dramas, films, literature, and more. Along with this shift, the number of people learning Korean has been increasing year by year. However, in many cases the Korean language is positioned solely as a tool for cultural understanding and communication, and the inherent fascination of the Korean language itself is rarely discussed. This seminar will examine Korean and Hangul from a linguistic perspective and consider their charm and magic together with the audience.
