Kyushu University Forum "KYUDAI NOW" in Manila, Philippines

Event Report

  The Kyushu University Forum “KYUDAI NOW” was held in Manila, Philippines, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, which is first time of KYUDAI NOW in the Philippines. The forum aims to showcase Kyushu University’s latest research across various disciplines, strengthen connections with its alumni, and build networks with individuals engaged in education, industry, and local government in both Philippines and Japan. The event gathered over 130 participants, including Kyushu University alumni, individuals with study experience in Japan or aspirations to study there, professionals from private companies, and members of academia.

  The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks by Vice President Shimizu Shuji of Kyushu University, followed by a guest address by H. E. Amb. Endo Kazuya, Ambassador of Japan to the Philippine and, Prof. Joel Joseph Marciano, Vice President for Research and Innovation.

  In Session I of the symposium, Prof. Muraki Satoshi from the Faculty of Design presented on “Human Factors and Ergonomics for All Ages and Abilities.” He was followed by Prof. Ito Kazuhide of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, who spoke on “In Silico Modelling-initiated One Health Research.” Assoc. Prof. Yang Muye from the Faculty of Engineering, gave the final presentation of this session titled “Evaluation of Galvanic Corrosion between Carbon Fibers and Steel in Atmospheric Environments.”
  During the coffee break, nine students presented posters highlighting their research across various fields. Presenters included Ms. Ichimura Ayuri, Ms. Kemori Otoha, Ms. Binti Mohd Azmil Nurlisa, Ms. Hashiguchi Hana, Mr. Aaron Jason Garcellano Templonuevo
, Mr. Itokazu Ryu, Ms. Rupasinghe Sayuri Masako, Mr. Arikawa Naoki and Mr. Mizutani Keisuke.

Reception and information corner of Kyushu University

  In Session II, Asst. Prof. Abiko Tomomi, from the Faculty of Agriculture presented her research titled “Current Research and Education in Rice Paddy in Kyushu University Farm.” Assoc Prof. Yamasaki Ryo from the Faculty of Medicine, delivered a presentation on “Elucidation of the Pathomechanisms of Neurological Diseases Through the Glial Connection” Additionally, Prof. Soriano Rowena, Far Eastern University Institute of Law and an alumni Kyushu University, shared insights in a talk titled “Kyudai-fied Imprints on my Career Development as a Filipino Lawyer.”

  The event concluded with a closing speech by Atty. De Vera Ronald P. , Representative of Kyushu University Alumni Association of the Philippines (Kyōdaikai), representing the Philippines Alumni Association of Kyushu University. A reception followed, providing an opportunity to deepen mutual friendship through engaging and pleasant conversations in a warm and convivial atmosphere.

  On the day prior to KYUDAI NOW, we conducted a series of official courtesy visits to University of the Philippine and Ateneo de Manila University, with which Kyushu University holds a partnership agreement. On the morning of February 10, our delegation visited University of the Philippines, Prof. Joel Joseph Marciano, Vice President for Research and Innovation, received our visit at the headquarters. Diliman and in the afternoon, we visited the headquarters of Ateneo de Manila University. Ms. Cristina M Alikpala MA, Assistant Vice President for University Partnerships and internationalization, hosted our delegated and exchanged the idea for educational program. After fruitful discussion about research and educational program, Campus tour was conducted in both University.

 This event shares the latest research from Kyushu University in various fields, providing an opportunity for information sharing with government, industry, and academia. It also serves as an opportunity for face-to-face collaboration with our alumni association, strengthening our international network. The Embassy of Japan to the Philippines website introduced this event as one of the events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines, as follows:
