Abstract
The bones support the human body.
In addition to providing mechanical support, bones also serve hematopoietic functions and act as reservoirs for calcium and phosphorus.
Life originated in the ocean, and in order to survive, organisms first developed exoskeletons.
The skeletal composition of invertebrates is calcium carbonate, formed from the components of seawater.
Later, to enhance mobility, vertebrates selected carbonate apatite—phosphorus was added to calcium carbonate as an essential energy source—as their skeletal material.
In this lecture, I will provide an overview of the current status and future developments of artificial bones composed of carbonate apatite.
