Abstract
Organisms are widely distributed over the surface of the Earth. At the same time, they often exhibit non-uniform distribution and spatial/temporal variability, resulting in diverse patterns of community structure. To address the question of how multiple species coexist, generate community structures, and persist over time, I am conducting field-based research in the coastal waters of temperate-tropical Asia, known as a center of marine biodiversity. In this seminar, I will introduce my research and other activities at the Amakusa Marine Biological Laboratory as a center of research and education in the field of coastal ecosystems studies.
