At Kyushu University, international exchange, particularly with the Asian region, has been increasingly active. However, such activities have been conducted since the era of Kyushu Imperial University. So, what kind of "international exchange" was carried out in times when transportation was not as developed as it is today? This seminar will focus on the research activities of Kyushu Imperial University faculty members in the Asian region and introduce the state of "international exchange" during the pre-war and wartime periods. First, we will quantitatively clarify which fields of faculty members traveled to which regions and to what extent. Then, we will present several case studies to specifically introduce the kinds of research activities they conducted.
