Abstract
This talk examines how the concept of ethical design can be a promising approach to address the AI pacing problem, which stems from legislative measures struggling to keep up with the rapid advancement of technological advancement. In addition to considering ethical design for social robotics, I also discuss regulatory frameworks based on non-binding, flexible AI ethical standards to enable stakeholders to effectively manage the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) risks inherent in daily human-robot interactions. By incorporating AI ethical standards into the development process of social robots, robot developers can embed principles of responsible innovation and research without conflicting with laws enacted for robot regulation.
