Abstract
Most of the amino acids have a chiral carbon at the alpha position, and D- and L-enantiomers are present. D-Amino acids are the enantiomers of widely present L-amino acids in mammals, and their biological functions and diagnostic values have gradually been unveiled in mammals including humans. Therefore, precise enantioselective analysis of chiral amino acids in biological and clinical samples is highly expected. In the present lecture, development of the analytical methods for chiral amino acids, and the applications to medical and food science areas are introduced.
