Event Report

  On Wednesday, Sep 17, 2025, the Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies (Q-AOS) hosted the Kyushu University Forum “Kyudai Now” at Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in Makassar, Indonesia.

  The forum aimed to showcase the latest research and educational activities jointly carried out by Kyushu University and UNHAS across diverse fields—including engineering, agriculture, medicine, and social sciences—to a wide local audience of Kyushu University alumni, students, faculty members, and the general public. This event marked the fourth Kyudai Now forum in Indonesia, following previous gatherings in Jakarta (January 2023), Yogyakarta (August 2023), and Bandung (August 2024).

  A total of 12 faculty members from both universities presented their cutting-edge research to over 200 participants. The opening remarks were delivered by Professor Shuji Shimizu, Vice President of Kyushu University; Professor Jamaluddin Jompa, President of UNHAS; and Mr. Koichi Ohashi, Head of the Consulate General of Japan in Makassar. The program included research presentations, a poster session by students, and an introductory session by the Kyushu University Open Innovation Platform (OIP). The forum concluded with closing remarks by Professor Adi Maulana, Vice President for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Business at UNHAS.

  Following the forum, a networking reception welcomed about 100 attendees, including many Kyushu University alumni from Indonesia and Japan. Notably, 42 UNHAS faculty members who are Kyushu University alumni also participated. This gathering further strengthened the Kyushu University Indonesian Alumni Association, which was officially established in 2023.
