The Kick-off Symposium of the Japan Association for the Advancement of Science (JAAS) will be held. In this symposium, a workshop titled "Facilitation for Cross-disciplinary Research" will be held.

In this session, we will practice the facilitation skills that are necessary for researchers in different fields to come together to conduct joint research. Since we believe that the world is already full of classroom lectures and training courses on facilitation and discussion, we will focus on "practice" here and demonstrate facilitation.

● Interviewing We will consider the process of deepening questions about the subject's activities and ideas by asking why they are doing them and how they came about them, so that the questioner has a solid understanding of the subject's activities and ideas.

●Metaphor and Paraphrase Metaphors and paraphrases are often used to better understand others and to better explain oneself and one's understanding. Here we will consider effective metaphors and paraphrases.

●When working or researching together, it is important to "look for areas of mutual interest. There are several formulas for mutual interest in the same thing. We will consider how to find areas of successful overlap of interests.
