About the Conference
ASOC: The Asian International Student Conference is an online academic conference open to high school students, undergraduate students, and graduate students. The main goal of this conference is to provide students from across Asia with a platform to present their research, while encouraging dialogue and collaboration with peers from other countries in the region. We also welcome submissions from students in the United States and Europe whose work relates to Asia or offers comparative perspectives between Asia and other regions. The conference brings together researchers and students from Asian universities, along with those passionate about Asian studies, to engage in meaningful discussions on the challenges and possibilities for cooperation in the region.

What is ASOC?
The Asian Studies Online Consortium (ASOC) is a research and education group founded by scholars across Asia in response to the challenges of COVID-19. ASOC seeks to explore new methods of research and education by utilizing online networks and fostering academic exchange across borders.

Keynote Theme: The Politics of Human Mobility: Migration, Displacement, and Trafficking in Contemporary Asia
Human mobility—whether voluntary or forced—is a defining feature of contemporary Asia. From labor migration and refugee flows to internal displacement and human trafficking, the region faces complex challenges shaped by political, economic, and social inequalities.
This conference will explore how states, local communities, and transnational actors manage, regulate, and politicize human mobility. Special attention will be given to border governance, the vulnerabilities of mobile and trafficked populations, and the competing narratives that frame mobility as opportunity, threat, or humanitarian crisis. By critically engaging with the politics of movement in Asia, we aim to shed light on shifting notions of citizenship, belonging, and justice in an era of intensified cross-border flows.
