Business and ESG
Module Mission/Vision

This module will incorporate transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary elements from social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities to solve sustainability-related issues through the scaling of sustainable business activities and the fostering of ESG innovation. Many developing countries, emerging economies, and local SMEs are struggling to access adequate financial resources to expand their efforts regarding climate mitigation/adaptation, biodiversity protection, protection of water resources, circular economy and pollution reduction activities. Sustainable investing, green finance, and corporate ESG integration represent important tools to allow innovative government policies and SMEs to obtain access to much-needed funding. However, these instruments rely of reliable policy frameworks, robust ESG data, and additional sustainability expertise among all involved stakeholders. Public funding through development agencies and multilateral development banks alone are insufficient to fund the many sustainability-related projects waiting to be implemented, therefore it is important to identify how private finance, through private investors and corporations, can fill in these gaps to accelerate the transition to a sustainable society, in Asia, Oceania, and globally.
