Mining System
Module Mission/Vision

The required energy and mineral resources tend to increase more and more in the future. In addition, Japan is a resource-importing country and must rely on imports from overseas. On the other hand, mining development to extract those resources has a serious impact on the environment, indicating that it is necessary to achieve both a stable supply of resources and environmental conservation. Therefore, this module aims to establish environmentfriendly mining development technologies for energy and mineral resources in resource-developing countries in the Asia-Oceania region for the stable supply of resources by expanding the low-environmental-impact mining development system and excavating techniques. Additionally, environmental rehabilitation with revegetation in post mining field must be discussed to address the environmental problems that arise from mining development. Furthermore, the utilization of post mine field as commercial applications and recovery of unmined resources to produce hydrogen with new environment-friendly mining system, e.g. underground gasification, are discussed for a sustainable mining development system. The output of this module also contributes to transition to a decarbonised society.
