The Imporatance of Various Environments Surrounding a Tidal Flat to Conserve the Endangered Waterfowls in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway
SDGs
Waterfowls in Asia are decreasing due to the degradation of habitat. Although protecting main coastal wetlands is significant, the importance of surrounding environments like paddy fields and reservoirs for waterfowls are scarcely known. Therefore, this research investigated how two kinds of spoonbills use different environments near Imazu tidal flat. The result was that spoonbills use the tidal flat and other sites such as reservoirs, artificial creeks and so on for different purposes. This result implies that the conservation of central coastal wetland is not enough for waterfowls, but we should reconsider the importance of surrounding environments for waterfowls.
