Kyushu University Forum “Kyudai Now” in Institute of Technology Bandung (Indonesia)

The Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies (Q-AOS) held the Kyushu University Forum “KYUDAI NOW” at the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The purpose of this forum is to widely introduce the latest research and education content currently being conducted by both Kyushu University and ITB in various fields such as engineering, medicine, and public health to local people, including Kyushu University alumni, students, and faculty. This was the third time the forum was held in Indonesia, following Jakarta in January 2023 and Yogyakarta in August 2023. A total of 10 faculty members from Kyushu University and ITB presented their research in front of approximately 100 participants. The forum was also streamed on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qQMRw01Q-M)  and as of September 15, 2024, 120 people have watched it.

Prof. Shuji Shimizu, Vice President of Kyushu University, and Prof. Andika Putra Pratama , Director of ITB’s International Collaboration Department, gave opening remarks. In the research presentation session from Kyushu University, Prof. Toshio Fujibuchi, Department of Health Sciences, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, gave a talk on “Radiation protection using digital transformation in the medical field”, Associate Prof. Hooman Farzaneh, Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, gave a talk online from Japan on “Low emission scenario analysis in urban energy systems in Asia: Evidence from Japan and Indonesia”, and Associate Prof. Kotaro Yonezu, Graduate School of Engineering , gave a talk on “Advantages of LA-ICP-MS analysis in exploration/management of mineral and geothermal resources”. In addition, Ms. Mayu Sakai, a master’s student from Prof. Fujibuchi’s lab, gave a poster presentation on “Real-time imaging of scattered radiation sources in X-ray fluoroscopy using a semiconductor camera”.

Ms. Mika Ishizaki and Ms. Mayumi Kugimoto from the Kyushu University International Affairs and Study Abroad Division also participated in this “KYUDAI NOW” and made a presentation and provided information to Indonesian students who are interested in short-term and long-term study abroad at Kyushu University. The closing remarks were given by ITB The presentation was given by Professor Taufiq Hidayat, Director of the Bureau of Partnership.

After the forum, a networking party was held at the same venue, with the participation of about 90 people, including Indonesian and Japanese Kyushu University alumni. 13 Kyushu University alumni who are currently working as ITB faculty members also participated in the event.

These events further strengthened the network of the Kyushu University Indonesian Alumni Association, which was officially registered last year .
