Abstract

Drones are widely used mainly for aerial filming today, but they can be used as weapons for example in Ukraine as seen on TV news. Meanwhile, they can also be used for scientific observations. Fixed-wing drones (so called Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, UAVs) are suitable for missions such as sample-return of aerosols from high altitude which are considered to be one of the sources of global warming and guerrilla downpour, and for aero-magnetic survey for understanding the activity of the Earth. In this seminar, the story of the development of fixed-wing drones for such purposes and the actual observation conducted in Antarctica and Ethiopia will be presented with the small talk about Antarctica and Ethiopia.
