Future of the Area Mission & Vision of Modules In practical efforts to achieve a sustainable society, there is a need to formulate an ideal future vision for the area with the participation of diverse stakeholders, and to pass on and develop knowledge, technology, and culture to the next generation in order to realize this social demand. Based on such trends in academia and society, this module, whose members are researchers in the humanities and social sciences, has set as its mission the development of methods to formulate a vision for the future of the area that will contribute to the creation of a sustainable society, with the aim of creating a society in which everyone can live proactively. As a vision to achieve this mission, we set the following three visions: (1) to implement and verify the effectiveness of environmental education, (2) to devise a method to conduct future workshops using the Future Design Method, and (3) to devise a method to conduct workshops using the Participatory GIS Method. Through the implementation of the above initiatives in various area of Asia and Oceania, including Japan, we will accumulate academic knowledge and promote contributions to the development of sustainable future society.
