Urban Land-Use Optimization

Mission & Vision of Modules

  • Asian cities are at the forefront of rapid urban transformation. Rapidly growing south and southeast cities are expanding and modernizing their urban areas. Cities in Asian developed nations are facing urban transformation because of population decline and infrastructure strain. Urban Land Use Efficiency aims to optimize the use of land within urban areas to achieve various goals and objectives related to sustainable development, economic efficiency, environmental conservation, and quality of life for residents. Urban design and planning with the objective of efficient land use is an important strategy for building communities that are resilient, livable, and inclusive for current and future generations in rapidly transforming Asian cities. This module will identify strategies, goals, actors, instruments, and processes for urban planning and urban design to maintain urban land use efficiency in Asian cities. Next, it will share the results of this research to enhance the urban planning process in the Asian region. We will host the Urban Thinkers Campus with UN-Habitat to share the results and train urban planning professionals. We will also hold a special symposium for researchers and professionals during the AURG international conference, which is a biannual academic event organized by former Kyushu University graduates.
