HAZE Pollution and Agriculture/Forestry Mission & Vision of Modules Haze, resulting from smoke pollution, is contributing to a rise in respiratory and other health issues in Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar in Southeast Asia. This predicament transcends rural areas and extends into urban regions and neighboring countries where the dispersed smoke has reached. The primary culprits behind haze outbreaks are wildfires ignited by the burning of agricultural land and deforestation. However, the intricate relationship between these agricultural and forestry activities and the health risks posed by haze is not yet fully understood. There is a lack of research accumulation within subgroups to identify the specific types of agriculture and forest use responsible for health hazards. It is imperative to develop laws and regulations to control haze and explore countermeasures against the spread of smoke pollution to other nations. Additionally, there is a need to assess measures to enhance resilience against health hazards associated with haze, treating it as a potential disaster. To address these multifaceted issues linked to haze, an interdisciplinary research team will be assembled. Experts from various fields will collaborate to scrutinize specific measures and propose comprehensive solutions Module Head Kimihiko HYAKUMURA Professor, Institute of Tropical Agriculture - Specialty - Political Ecology, Natural Resource Management, South East Asia Area Studies, Tropical Forest Environmental Conservation, Forest Policy Module Members Keiya YUMIMOTO, Professor Research Institute for Applied Mechanics Noriko OKUBO, Professor School of Law, Graduate School of Law and Politics Osaka University Nobuhiro AIZAWA, Professor National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies Takahiro FUJIWARA, Associate Professor Faculty of Agriculture Tatsuro SATO, Associate Professor Faculty of Engineering Yoshitaka KOSHINA, Research Fellow Institute of Tropical Agriculture Saykham BOUTTHAVONG, Lecturer Faculty of Forestry, National University of Laos Kethsana KANYASAN, Lecturer Faculty of Education, National University of Laos Back to Clusters
